The Admiral's Inn & Gunpowder Suites

A charming, historic boutique hotel set in a secluded section of 18th century Nelson’s Dockyard, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offering casual elegance and friendly, personal service. The 34 rooms and suites are housed in historic buildings and cottages fringing the waterfront and a 2-acre headland 100 yards across the bay. The rooms at the main hotel, housed in 3 buildings dating from the 18th century, all offer AC, free WiFi, and modern amenities and range from standards with beautiful harbor views to garden rooms with large patios and daybeds deluxe loft suites right on the water’s edge. The deluxe Gunpowder Suites, named for the remodeled 18th-century Gunpowder store which houses art exhibitions and four of the Suites, are located on the headland opposite the main hotel. The suites offer a luxurious respite with four-poster beds, a sitting area and balconies with views of the harbor. Some interconnect and offer 2 queens and all have a pull-out twin-sized sofabed.

The hotel offers harbor view tropical gardens and terraces, a small beach and a spectacular infinity-edged pool with daybeds and sun loungers for relaxing, the Powder House Spa for pampering, a complimentary boat shuttle to the beach in Freeman’s Bay for snorkeling and swimming, and kayaks and paddleboards for exploring the harbor.

There are two excellent open-air restaurants, Pillars and Boom on site. Pillars, with their outdoor waterfront terrace overlooking Nelson’s 18th-century pillars and the boats bobbing at anchor, form a stunning setting to enjoy cocktails on comfortable lounge chairs or to dine while watching the moon rise over Shirley Heights. Local seafood is a specialty and a Caribbean night with a steel band in season is offered on Wednesdays along with specialties from around the world and a jazz band on Saturday nights. Boom, with its elevated harbourside position, is hard to beat for a scenic venue to enjoy a delicious lunch. The vast outdoor terrace and headland boast a stunning infinity-edged pool where you may bask on luxurious sun-beds overlooking spectacular Nelson’s Dockyard.
